Bexleyheath is a town on the border of South East London and North West Kent. It neighbours fellow large-ish towns Dartford and Sidcup. It is home to around 30,000 people. Until the early 1800’s, Bexleyheath literally was heath in the borough of Bexley which bordered Watling Street. It contained hardly any buildings and was an area made up of mostly scrub-land. Although the famous Bexleyheath windmill once stood there.
Danson Park is probably the most well known area of Bexleyheath. It is home to Red House which was once home to the famoust socialist William Morris. Danson Park is a very popular public park. It provides a decent amount of facilities. Some for recreational sport and others to facilitate a quiet amble. It is host to many major annual events and due to its size (78 hectares), often some of these these occur simultaneously.
Bexleyheath’s town centre is pretty much taken over by a covered shopping centre called The Broadway Shopping Centre. It was opened in 1984. It is now known as “The Mall”. Various high-street stores are present here. Broadway Square is a shopping centre opposite The Mall. It was opened in 2001 and is made up of a pub and 6 large retail units.
There are many restaurants, pubs and bars in the area. You won’t find a proper nightclub here though. This is due to the area being heavily residential. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a late drink though. Many of the bars hold late licenses.
