Chatham Dockyard was once a very busy place, supporting the British Navy for over 400 years. Boats built and maintained at the dockyard helped the British navy in conflicts such as The Falklands War and way back to the Spanish Armada. HMS Victory was built at Chatham Dockyard – if you don’t know, this is the ship that Lord Nelson sailed in the Battle of Trafalgar. These days, the dockyard is an epicentre for businesses and residential properties.
Chatham played an important role in the 18th Century, with The River Medway being a vital transportation link between The Weald all the way upstream as far as Tonbridge.
