Bromley is a large suburban district on the border on Kent & London. It was historically a market town and some argue whether it is situated in Kent or London – due to it having it’s own postcode (BR). As part of the suburban growth in the 20th century, Bromley significantly increased in population. It has developed into one of a handful of regionally significant, commercial and retail districts outside of Greater London.
Bromley was a quiet, rural village until the arrival of the railway in 1858 in Shortlands which led to its rapid growth and expansion. Bromley was then developed to accommodate those wishing to live closer to the capital.
The historic part of the town is Market Square, which sits at the junction of the high street in Bromley and Church Road.
The town now has a very large shopping and retail are and includes many upmarket retailers and popular shops. There are also a vast selection of restaurants to dine out in.
