Royal Tunbridge Wells (usually shortened to Tunbridge Wells) is a large town and borough in Kent. The town is situated close to the border of the county of East Sussex.
Tunbridge Wells came into being as a spa in the the Georgian Times and the became a popular tourist resort under Richard (Beau) Nash when the Pantiles and chalybeate spring attracted visitors who wished to take the waters. The town now has a population of around 56,500 and has a reputation as being the ‘Middle England’ town.The pantiles and its chalybeate spring have been landmarks of the town ever since the founding of it. A modern landmark is the millenium clock situated at five ways area in the centre of town. Tunbridge Wells also contains green spaces that range from woodlands to well maintained parks and grounds.Tunbridge wells is situated at the Northern edge of the High Weald, a ridge of hard sandstone that runs across southern England from Hampshire. The town’s geology is illustrated by the exposed sandstone outcrops at the Wellington Rocks and High Rocks.Tunbridge Wells town historically had three railway stations and two of these are still in use, one is located in the centre of the town and the other in the north. Located in Tunbridge Wells is the Kent and Sussex Hospital and Pembury hospital run by the NHS Trust.
